That work draws on long-standing experience with patent translation and revision, including extensive PCT/WIPO and EPC/EPO material.

We revise existing German-to-English and Russian-to-English patent translations against the original source, checking accuracy, completeness, terminology, consistency and appropriate patent style.
Revision can be a cost-effective option when the existing translation is of a suitable standard. A thorough review still involves detailed comparison of the two texts, terminology research and final checking, so any saving over a new translation depends on the quality of the English supplied.
We assess both documents before quoting. If extensive correction would be required, we will explain whether a fresh translation is likely to be the more practical solution.

Working with scanned patent documents
We can work with editable documents, PDFs and image-based source files. A scanned document may need optical character recognition (OCR) to convert the page images into editable text before translation.
Where OCR conversion or other document preparation is required, we identify the work involved when assessing the material and explain any additional cost in the quotation. If a scan is especially poor, we first assess whether it can be processed reliably.
Include any particular formatting, file-handling or delivery requirements with your enquiry so these can be considered from the outset.

Which valves are open?
Die Ventile sind teilweise geöffnet may suggest “the valves are partially open”. But where the described operation has selected valves fully open and the others closed, the intended reading is:
The operating sequence establishes whether the wording concerns a subset of valves or the extent of their opening.
Russian → English
Assigned to a pipe, or mounted on it?
In a vehicle-washing description, по одному на каждый Г-образный трубопровод assigns one device to each L-shaped pipe. Rendering it as “one on each pipe” introduces a mounting location.
Reading the surrounding passage separates where the devices are located from which pipes they serve.

Why work directly with a specialist patent translator?
Working directly with me brings together specialist patent expertise, straightforward communication and a service with fewer organisational layers. You know who is translating your documents, can discuss the technical detail with that person and agree exactly what work you need.
Specialist expertise without an additional agency margin
A large translation company’s quotation covers more than the translator’s work. It also supports project management, sales, administration, corporate overheads and the company’s margin. A higher price therefore does not necessarily mean that more time or expertise is being devoted to the translation itself.
Commissioning me directly removes that additional commercial layer. My fee covers the translation, research and checking involved, together with the costs of running a specialist practice. This can offer good value while allowing proper attention to the technical detail.
Know who is actually translating your patent
Large translation companies also outsource patent translation work to independent specialists. Choosing a large company does not necessarily mean that an employee will translate your document.
My own experience includes many years of patent translation and revision for language service providers. Working with me directly gives you access to that experience and a clear understanding of who is responsible for your English text.
Keep instructions intact and resolve questions directly
Patent translation can raise questions that need a precise answer: which component a phrase refers to, whether terminology must follow an earlier application, or how to handle an apparent inconsistency.
When instructions and queries pass through intermediaries, context can be lost or condensed, and each exchange can take longer. Under a tight deadline, that friction can leave important questions unresolved when the translation is delivered.
Direct communication gives us a shorter route to clarification. You can explain the technical context to me, and I can describe the issue, ask a focused question and discuss the implications of different wording. This makes it easier to address uncertainties while the work is in progress.

Working with the same translator allows familiarity with your technology, terminology and preferences to develop over time. Related applications and patent-family documents can be approached with that accumulated knowledge, supporting consistency and reducing the need to explain the same requirements afresh.

The amount of material, technical subject matter, file quality, required preparation and deadline all matter. Revision also depends on the standard of the existing English. We review the documents and confirm a quotation and proposed delivery date before you commit.
How are unpublished documents handled?
Professional and contractual confidentiality obligations cover unpublished patent applications and technical documents. If your project requires an NDA or specific transfer and handling arrangements, raise these before sending the material so the requirements can be agreed. What helps when only an extract needs translating?
Identify the exact claims, pages or passages required. Where available, provide the full document and drawings as reference material, together with any terminology guidance. This helps establish the meaning without requiring you to commission a translation of the whole document.
