About us
Translating Patents is a boutique agency specialising in patent translation — primarily with the language pairs German-English and Russian-English.
We are a collaboration of experienced and expert patent translators, who have honed their skills and knowledge by working largely directly with the World Intellectual Property Organization for well over a decade. Therefore, what we know is from the world’s authority on patents!
Years of closely working with WIPO, other main patent offices (e.g. EPO) and industry clients has allowed us to learn much of what there is to know about patent formulations, terminology, style, problem-solving, research and the relevant tools.
Not only are we bona fide experts in patent translation, our ongoing collaboration with WIPO and other industry players means that we are kept up-to-date with current practice and receive regular training and feedback to further hone our skills and knowledge.
Our knowledge and expertise naturally extend far beyond translation though. Through translating millions of words across the whole gamut of patent document types, we have naturally gained much insight into patent drafting — how to structure the various documents and what to avoid — for success in patent applications. In other words, we can often help find problems in original documents so that these can be corrected in preliminary amendments by patent attorneys/lawyers. This means we inevitably provide quality control on your patent documents, and in a way that is unique due to the way in which we parse language at a basic level and have to perform essential logic, consistency, terminology, spelling and QA checks as well as carry out research into the prior art, relevant patent family documents, IPC categories, drawings, search reports and opinions.
The great news is also that we seek to share with you much of our knowledge on this site and associated channels.
For us, translating patents is an immense privilege, allowing us to combine our language and translation skills, in-depth knowledge of patent filing procedures, PCT rules and guidelines as well as a genuine curiosity in all things tech’.
We understand that there is huge importance to the work we do. Ultimately, protecting intellectual property gives proper incentive for inventors to continue innovating and seeking solutions to the many challenges this world faces. Playing a key role in the patenting process in this fast-changing world of exciting innovation makes patent translation both enjoyable and satisfying for us!
